ABOUT THE MOVIE

Marking its 40th anniversary this year, “This is Spinal Tap” revisits the origins of “one of Britain’s loudest bands”, follows its members David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) and a string of ill-fated drummers as they embark on their first North American tour. Writer-actor Rob Reiner, in his first turn as director, plays documentarian Martin “Marty” Di Bergi, and such stars as Ed Begley Jr., Fran Drescher, Dana Carvey, Billy Crystal, Howard Hesseman, Paul Schaffer, Anjelica Huston and Fred Willard make cameo appearances throughout. Packed with unforgettable moments and quotes (“I think that the problem may have been that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf”) and original music tracing the history of rock ’n’ roll styles, “This is Spinal Tap” continues to set the high bar of musical mock-docs.
