Music for Adults
Creative, learning, and connection do not have an expiration date—learn an instrument, meet other musicians, brush up on old skills, try something new.
There are many places to start!
Learn an instrument, sing, or play music with others through recurring classes and ensembles that build musical skills and community.
Includes age 55+ offerings.
Short-term explorations of a specific musical topic, skill, or creative practice.
New opportunities are added throughout the year.
Relaxed opportunities to make music with others through jams, collaborative songwriting, performances, and other facilitated community experiences.
Expanded programming for adults in 2026–27 is supported in part by a "Thrive Grant" from the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole.
Courses & Ensembles
Uke 55+
8-week Course
Learn the basics of the ukulele and how to play it, including primary chords, playing full songs and singing along while playing. Suggest your favorite tunes! You will also learn principles of a jam, how to play as a group and the history of the instrument. Taught by Susan Jones.
What You'll Need
No instrument? No problem! Ukuleles are available on loan for the duration of the course, or you can purchase a uke from our friends at Chesbro Music or Mountain Music. Each participant receives their own binder, with new pages and resources added throughout the course.

Drum Kit 55+
8-week Course
A welcoming introduction to the drum kit focused on rhythm, coordination, and groove. Play on real drum kits each week and also work with practice pads while learning simple patterns, grooves and fills that make it possible to play music quickly and enjoyably. No prior drumming experience is required. Taught by Ed Domer. Enrollment is limited to 6 students.
What You'll Need
All materials are provided for class, and at-home practice kits are available for rent. Each participant recieves their own binder, with new pages and resources added throughout the course.

Concert Band 55+
8-week Course
Beginning Band for Adults offered in partnership with
Jackson Hole Community Band
Learn a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument, or pick one up again after years away. The eight-week course covers music reading, instrument technique, and ensemble playing for beginners and returning players. Taught by retired school band director Cheryl DeLong, participants also have the option to join Jackson Hole Community Band for a tune at its December concert. Designed for adults 55+, younger adults are welcome.

What You'll Need
Your own instrument. Not sure what to play, or whether your old instrument is playable? Come to Instrument Try-Day on September 30 to try instruments, have yours checked, and get help arranging a third-party rental ($30–$60/month). Essential Elements Book 1 is provided.
Enrollment Deadline
September 30, 2026. After enrollment, we’ll ask about your instrument and experience. Minimum enrollment is 6 students.

Rock Band 55
8-week Course
Join a band, rehearse, then gig! Play material from a range of artists and bands across rock, R&B, and blues while developing your skills playing with other musicians. Over eight weeks, the band will build a set together and prepare for a live gig at a Jackson Hole venue. Basic playing skills are required, but no previous band experience is necessary. Designed for adults 55+.
What You'll Need
Basic skills on your instrument or vocals are required. You should be comfortable with the fundamentals, able to keep a steady beat, and able to learn a basic song part from chords, tabs, notation, or by ear. Guitar and bass players should bring their own instruments; TMS provides drums, keyboard, amps, and other band equipment.

Space is limited by instrument to build a balanced band: 1 drummer, 1 keyboard player, 1 bass player, 2 guitarists and 2 vocalists. To express interest, contact Taylor Upton, taylor@tetonmusicschool.org with your instrument and a little about your playing experience.

Jam55+
Weekly Ensemble
For adults age 55+ who have graduated Uke55 or have beginning/intermediate skill on an instrument, Jam55 meets weekly as a drop-in class, with members playing favorite tunes and performing as a group throughout the community. Not limited to just ukulele, current instrumentation also includes guitar, bass, drums, and accordion. Must have own instrument.
Prerequisite
At least one course of Uke55 or demonstrated proficiency on chosen instrument.
